THE $#!T - A show of love, loss, lust and lower intestines
Pay What You Can (all ticket proceeds go to the artist). Tickets Here. Understory will close at 6PM to host.
Internationally tolerated fringe performer Matti McLean brings us a one man show about the nature of relationships and the $#!T we put up with.
Join Matti McLean on the premiere of his new show "The $#!T" - Directed by Damon Bradley Jang.
From the far distant past of 2101, the show follows a Christian boy from Northern Ontario who falls for a mischievous boy from Virginia. Fifteen years later, they're sharing a hostel in DC when nature calls. While entrapped on the toilet, he reflects upon the history that led them from lovers to enemies to friends… and maybe back again? But in such a small space, will one bodily function be enough to shatter whatever romance they have left?
A story of love, loss, lust and lower intestines- the $#!T bares all and shows that sometimes the ones who stick around can be the ones you least expect.
Known for creating inventive, boundary-pushing Fringe work, McLean’s previous shows BODIES and A Canadian Explains Eurovision have toured across North America, combining comedy, vulnerability, and unconventional theatrical devices. The $#!T continues this tradition with a piece that is as outrageous as it is deeply human and dares to bare it all for the people we love.

Cards and Connection: A Queer Tarot Gathering
Ticketed Event (Price includes drink ticket!)
What’s better than tarot? Tarot AND queer community—and this event has both! Hosted by Understory and Andrew McGregor of The Hermit’s Lamp, this event is a chance to explore the tarot, meet other people who love to read cards, and grow your skill in a supportive and safe space.
Whether you’re just starting your first deck or have years of experience, this evening is for ALL levels. Just bring yourself and your cards, and be ready to have fun.
What is it going to look like in practice?
Andrew (any pronouns) will be your host for the evening. He has been working with Tarot since 1986 and has been a full time reader since 2000. He has written three books and published five decks. Traveling all around the world to teach, he has also run his Toronto store, The Hermit’s Lamp, since 2008. With years of experience, he has a deep love of teaching and sharing tarot with others.
As a group, participants will discuss what they hope to learn from the evening based on their goals. Andrew will help guide readings, build tarot spreads, and teach new techniques. They’ll be around to drop in and answer questions, share stories, and support your tarot journey.
This is a community event. We ask that you please show up with an open heart, a willingness to share (whatever your level), and a deep respect for other people’s journeys.
This space is accessible. Limited sponsored spots available drop Andrew a line at andrew @ thehermtslamp.com
The plan is for this to be a monthly event.
What if I am a total beginner?
We all started in a similar place: With a fresh deck and a book to help us interpret our readings. The wonderful thing about the tarot community is they love to share. After all, the more readers, the more fun. So be assured you will be welcome!
What should I bring?
Bring your cards, a notebook, and whatever you might like to share.
